About OAK:

OAK evolved out of the 'LA 21 Community Forum' established as part of Kerrier District Council's Local Agenda 21 Strategy.

The agenda for the 21st century was set up by international agreement and was signed by governments of 178 countries including the UK.
The agreement recognised that only by working with local communities, combating poverty and inequality could our serious environmental situation be reversed and sustainable development achieved.

OAK is an independent group with its own elected committee and constitution. It still maintains valuable links with Kerrier's Local Agenda Coordinator.

OAK provides a unique basis for cooperation between members who come from a wide range of backgrounds bringing together many skills and specialised knowledge.

OAK continues to provide links and participate with other community groups, projects and Local Government, sometimes working in an advisory capacity. By pooling together our resources and skills we can have confidence in asking questions on specific issues which effect our environment and neighbourhood. We emphasise positive input where changes are need in planning and policies.

OAK maintains contact with other Agenda 21 derived groups such as West Den based in Tavistock. They are developing links with communities worldwide, particularly in India.

OAK also proposes to publish a local directory of sustainable business's in conjunction with Penwith Agenda 21 group.

OAK publishes a monthly newsletter on events and projects, available in local libraries.

Kerrier Conservation Crew has developed as a flagship of OAK which maintains an active program of voluntary practical conservation work in the Kerrier district. The group maintains its own tools and is insured. Projects have included establishing nature reserves in local schools and conservation in Tehidy Country Park and the Red River Valley.
